Taboo’s in Switzerland
Do’s in Switzerland
A business person shouldn’t do any of the taboos as it is a form of disrespect, and customers won’t stop at the business again. They should do the do’s as it shows a sense of being known to Switzerland.
- Don’t speak loudly in public, especially on a cell phone. Nor make a big noise, or joking loudly.
- Don’t address someone by their first name until invited to do so. Use surnames or titles instead.
- Do not put hands in pocket while talking to someone. Nor chew gum, litter or clean nails in public.
Do’s in Switzerland
- Do respected Swiss greeting with three kisses on the cheek, though a handshake is the norm on a first meeting.
- Use a fork to cut food like salad and potatoes instead of a knife, and break bread with hands.
- Do keep both hands on table when eating, but keep elbows off table. Eat everything off your plate and out your knife and fork side by side at the 5:25 position when done eating.
